SYW -

Anytime!! Stoop? C'mon - I only wish I could play as fast as Doc, Bryan Sutton or Tony Rice. I am quite content to lay down a nice G, C, D rhythm with an occasional relative minor thrown in. If you can make it to FloydFest 9 this July we can sit in the woods and pick and then go camp out in the Beer garden.....there may even be a bottle of a nice tasty single malt scotch to sip - although that is just a hypothetical possibility as I did not smuggle one in last year rolled up in the center of my sleeping bag...

I still have my Michael Kelly mandolin I learned on (also made in Korea) and it wasn't a bad little instrument. My mandolin instructor told me to spend enough money to buy an instrument I wouldn't be fighting as I was learning and that MK was just fine. He finally convinced me to start playing guitar so I bought an Art and Lutherie (sub-division of Godin). Unfortunately, my teacher was killed in a car accident two years ago and other than some occasional noodling at home, I put the mandolin down after playing Brokedown Palace at his memorial.

I should probably dust it off and start playing again and keep his memory alive. That young pup taught me a helluva lot about more than just music.....

MANDO...cool beans, didnt realize you were in the east, thought most of this forum was in the SF area for some reason :)

... I just might make floydfest, i've always wanted to... i have some friends in the christianburg area so i may be through that area sooner or later, regardless.

my stuff, nothing special, just some solo one-takes...pickin with other people is when it really starts to get interesting.

I'll definitely let you know if I'm headed that way any time soon. I'm currently in Ohio recuperating from a car accident but the southern Appalachians are my home away from home.

P.S. sorry to hear about your teachers passing btw

Many thanks for the link to you recordings - outstanding!! I'll pick anytime you want to.

Good to see you are circling the bait on FloydFest - just do it. If your friends in Christiansburg don't work out. our group has extra tents and you are more than welcome to join us. There are 5 of us going again this year and we have had a great time every year. By far and away the best fest I have been to (Merlefest is a close second). Perfect size and a great artist lineup each year. The best part is finding the new group that you never heard of. Everyone knows that the Levon Helm band is going to be good, but the fun is stumbling across acts like Holy Ghost Tent Revival the Mantras or Nathan and the Zydeco Cha Chas. Hell one year we ran across psychedelic reggae in the form of The Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad.

And the beer garden is superb........

22-25 July, ya gotta come.

"I just might make floydfest"

As they used to say in the old Alka Seltzer commercial, "Try it, you'll like it". Floyd is a smallish fest that grows a little bigger every year. They consistently bring in excellent talent, and put on a clean, family friendly event. It is quite the bang for your festy bucks.

whoa! that kind of blows my mind hahah

my singing is subpar compared to my lead/improv skills. and i need to practice with a metronome...you might notice some of them speed up as the song progresses.
